Tigers Roar Into Class AAA Semifinals
The top seed Chapmanville Tigers punched their ticket to the Class AAA semifinals with a 75-68 win over Robert C. Byrd in the West Virginia State Boys Basketball Tournament at the Charleston Civic Center on Wednesday.
The Tigers (21-3) came out of the gate quickly and took a 22-14 lead at the end of the opening quarter. Chapmanville continued to stretch the lead out in the second period and held a 31-14 advantage at the intermission.
Robert C. Byrd (15-8) chipped away at the lead a bit in the third period, but Chapmanville still held a 46-33 lead heading into the final quarter. Robert C. Byrd put on a furious late rally and cut the lead down to five points, but the Tigers were able to make the plays down the stretch to get the win.
Keaton Terry led Chapmanville with 18 points and 15 rebounds, including 11 of the team's 30 offensive rebounds. Eli Smith fired in 17 points. Dakota Dalton added 16 points, including 3 first half three-pointers. Benji Adkins had 9 points and 11 boards. Jay Brock had 8 points. Kai Martin netted 5 points. Logan Hovanec finished with 2 points.
The Tigers will next play the winner of Ripley and Winfield on Friday morning at 11:15 am.
