Tigers Claw Winfield in Class AAA Semifinals
The top seed Chapmanville Tigers punched their ticket to the West Virginia Class AAA Title Game with a 72-47 over the 4th seed Winfield Generals on Friday morning at the Charleston Civic Center.
The Tigers (22-3) and Generals (22-4) traded buckets early and were tied, 11-11, after the opening period. Chapmanville began to separate themselves in the second quarter, outscoring Winfield 16-8 to take a 27-19 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Tigers kept extending their advantage in the third quarter and held a 53-30 lead heading into the final period. From there, Chapmanville would continue to extend its lead and take home the win and advance to the finals.
Jay Brock led the Tigers in scoring with 19 points and connected on 4-of-8 from three-point range. Keaton Terry had a double-double with 17 points and 10 boards. Kai Martin came off the bench with 15 points and 7 boards. Dakota Dalton added 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc. Benji Adkins scored 4 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Logan Hovanec and Jacob Vance scored 2 points each. Eli Smith finished with 1 point.
For Winfield, Owen Taylor led the way with 16 points. Brody Ilderton added 12 points and 8 rebounds.
This was Chapmanville head coach Brad Napier's 14th state tournament win, and he will help try to guide the Tigers to their 4th state title on Saturday.
Chapmanville will battle the winner of Bridgeport and North Marion in the Class AAA state title game at 5 pm on Saturday.
