Irish Fall In Class A Quarterfinals
The 3rd seed Huntington St Joe Irish saw their season come to an end as they fell to 6th seed Tucker County, 59-57, in the Class A quarterfinals in the West Virginia Boys Basketball State Tournament on Tuesday morning at the Charleston Civic Center.
Tucker County (17-8) jumped out quickly and took a 13-10 advantage after the first quarter. St Joe (15-9) fought back and took the lead in the second period, but Tucker County was able to tie it back up at 23-23 at the intermission.
The Mountain Lions extended their lead to 38-34 at the end of the third quarter. St Joe put on a rally late but fell short as Tucker County advanced to the semifinals.
Isaiah Sanders led the Irish with 22 points. Micaiah Ehirim followed with 10 points. Noah Keaton added 7 points. Cylis Allen and Brody Runyon scored 5 points each. Grady Paynter netted 4 points. Tucker Watts and Brayden McDowell finished with 2 points apiece.
Tucker County was led by Carson Dearborn's 14 points.
